Sunday, May 17, is the “Rededicate 250” event, where we will rededicate the United States as “one nation under God”. We will have an impromptu prayer gathering on the Iowa State Capitol front steps from 2-3 pm on Sunday, May 17. Please come and invite others as we allow the Holy Spirit to lead us during this time. More details at the end of this email.
Below are the updates as the legislature closed out its session Sunday evening. SO many answers to our prayers! I am greatly encouraged, and though not everything passed we were praying for, we just have a head start on what to pray for next session!
State and Local
1. Anti-foreign law bill (HF2695) – Praise God!!! This bill passed both the House and Senate and is waiting for the Governor’s signature!
2. Black market abortion pill bill (HF2563) – Praise God!!! This bill passed both the House and Senate and is waiting for the Governor’s signature!
3. Parents right to raise a child according to their biological sex bill (HF2557, HSB669) – Did not pass this year. We will continue to pray for this bill for next session.
4. Age verification bill (SF443) – Praise God!!! This bill passed both the House and Senate and is waiting for the Governor’s signature!
5. Pray for the Senate – We will continue to pray throughout the summer for the Senate and for the upcoming elections. That righteous leaders that follow God’s Biblical principles will be elected.
6. Bill reforming the emergency powers of the Governor (HF2694) – this bill passed with amendments on 4-29-26 in the Senate. The amendment is not good. It makes last year’s budget automatically continue if legislators do not pass a new one. Our prayers were answered that the House took the amendment out and sent it back to the Senate. And the Senate had the votes to pass it this time! The bill still needs to be signed by the Governor.
7. Gubernatorial race – the primary is less than 2 months away. Pray for God’s selected candidate to have favor with the people and move forward in this process.
8. Pipeline bill (HF2104) – This bill did not make it through the Senate. It did not pass this year. We will continue to pray for this bill for next session.
9. Lifewise - a nonprofit that provides Bible education to public school students during school hours, off school property. It is starting to gain a foothold here in Iowa and is changing lives, beginning with students and extending to families. Find out more about it here: During School Hours - Home - LifeWise Academy
10. Churches and families
National and International
1. President Trump and cabinet
2. Mail order abortion drugs temporarily halted
3. Planned Parenthood – was defunded – but only for 1 year. It expires July 4 unless new legislation is passed through a reconciliation bill. Congress is trying to fund ICE and the Border Patrol through another “skinny” reconciliation bill and focusing only on restoring funding to these 2 agencies. They are trying to get the votes to pass this. Senator Josh Hawley introduced an amendment to extend the abortion measure (defund Planned Parenthood) for 10 more years. This measure did not pass. The skinny bill passed in the Senate. But not the House yet.
4. Project Freedom – Free foreign ships trapped in the Strait of Hormuz. This is a humanitarian mission – these ships are running low on food and all else to sustain large crews. 15,000 service members. This move places the responsibility on Iran to allow the safe departure of non-involved shipping – or risk escalation if it chooses to interfere.
5. Military
6. Iran, US, Israel
7. Nigeria and Sudan – persecuted Christians
Upcoming Events:
1. National Day of Prayer – Thursday, May 7, at the Iowa State Capitol rotunda. 11:30-1:00.
2. Rededicate 250 – Sunday, May 17, 2:00 pm. Recount, reclaim and rededicate Iowa back to God. Impromptu prayer meeting on the steps of our State Capitol. See more information below for Iowa and this link for national. Celebrations - Freedom 250
3. March for Life – Saturday, June 20. 1:00 pm rally at the Capitol. 1:45 March.
4. Bible Reading Marathon – Tuesday, July 14. Bible Reading Marathon
5. The Family Leadership Summit – Friday, July 17, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. David Barton (Wallbuilders), Lucas Miles (TPUSA Faith) confirmed speakers.
6. Nehemiah Alliance 52 Day Rebuild Initiative – Join others from all states in prayer and fasting across our nation from 9-11-26 through 11-1-26. 3 days of fasting, 9-11 and 11-1, and another day assigned to the state of Iowa. Nehemiah Alliance - 52 Day National Rebuild Initiative
